Traveling With Your Mattress
Happy New Year! We hope you had a great holiday and this week has been filled with productivity and excitement for what 2022 has in store.
As we solidify our goals for Q1, it's natural to start considering what sets us apart from our competition. This we tout as our competitive advantage.
But some advantages aren't as straightforward to uncover as offering a superior product or better pricing. Some require you and your leadership team to "zoom-out" and ask the questions that deliver the gold.
For example, the world-renowned cyclists of Team Sky, who won their first Tour De France in 2011, travel with not only their own pillows but also their own mattresses and air conditioners during races.
Team Sky understands that races can be won or lost by the thinnest of margins, and next to eating, a great night's sleep before a competition can deliver what's needed to tip the scales in their favor.
Admittedly, I thought it sounded a little crazy at first too, but then it got me thinking... How else could we be uncovering, those hidden gems to deliver the gold for our own organization?
Here are a few questions to ask when determining competitive advantage:
- Why do our clients/customers/donors choose us?
- Why do potential clients/customers/donors choose our competitors instead?
- Why do some potential clients/customers/donors not buy/contribute to anyone?
- How can we move these potential clients/customers/donors to action in a way no one else can or is not currently thinking about?
